《The Most Transparent Story in the World 2》 by Sugii Hikaru expands far beyond the gimmick-driven appeal of the first book and delivers a much stronger narrative experience.
The novel uses a “story-within-a-story” structure, where the protagonist, Toma Fujisaka, investigates the unfinished mystery novel 《The Girl on the Murder Line》 after one of its co-authors suddenly passes away. Because the original story lacks an ending, the mystery becomes not only what happened, but also how the story itself should conclude.
What makes the novel especially compelling is its exploration of detective fiction as a craft. The book highlights a central challenge of mystery writing: balancing surprise and plausibility. A story that is too logical becomes predictable, while a story that is too shocking risks losing credibility.
Through layered storytelling and carefully planted clues, the author manages to create a conclusion that feels both unexpected and convincing.
The sequel also develops Toma’s character more effectively than the first novel. While he was previously a passive writer completing someone else’s work, this time he becomes an active creator writing for his own purpose and convictions.

《世界上最透明的故事 2》比起第一集，我喜歡非常多。
《世界上最透明的故事》推出時，以「只有紙本書能體驗的感動」以及「絕對不可能做成電子書」作為宣傳。作者杉井光甚至說：「要完美翻譯這本小說，全世界恐怕就只有臺灣辦得到了。」聽起來非常吸引人，網路上也造成不少轟動。
第一集雖然以特殊的紙本閱讀體驗引起話題，但單就推理小說本身而言，我其實沒有特別被故事打動。情節相對平淡，推理也不算困難，因此看到推出第二集時，我反而感到很好奇：這次作者還能玩出什麼新花樣？
沒想到第二集不只是延續概念，而是真正把故事本身變得精彩了。
這一集最大的特色，是使用了「書中書」的結構。讀者一邊閱讀燈真的故事，同時也跟著他閱讀《殺導線的少女》這部未完成的推理小說。兩層故事彼此交錯，讓整本書雖然篇幅不長，卻非常有層次。
而最有趣的地方在於，《殺導線的少女》沒有結局。其中一位作者突然過世，讓故事停在曖昧未明的位置，也讓「結局應該是什麼」這件事，成為推理的一部分。因為可能性越多，就越考驗作者如何寫出既合理、又令人驚訝的答案。這也讓我想到，推理小說其實最困難的地方，並不是「反轉」，而是如何讓讀者在感到意外的同時，又願意相信這樣的發展是合理的。因為「驚訝」與「信服」很多時候其實是互相衝突的。太合理的故事容易被猜到；太出乎意料，又可能失去說服力。(不過想想韓劇，常常不合理的展開，我還是愛看得要死 😆 )
這本書很巧妙地利用敘事技巧與邏輯安排，讓故事中的故事都成功收尾。結局不只是令人意外，而是回頭重新思考時，會發現所有線索其實早就藏在裡面。另外，我也很喜歡燈真這個角色在第二集的變化。第一集的他，比較像是在完成父親留下的故事，是一種被動的創作；但到了第二集，他開始主動地為了某件事、某個人去寫作。這讓角色變得更立體，也讓「主角創作」本身成為故事的一部分。
